A Story of Exceptional Friendship as Inspiration for Today’s Troubled Worl Výpravná publikace mapující přátelský vztah dvou výrazných osobností. The purpose of this book is to help Tibet and the Tibetan people. Tibet is a brave nation with a rich culture and religion that is among the most under threat in the world, due to facing occupation and terror from a Communist totalitarian power for over 60 years. China is decimating the Tibetan population in its own land, destroying Tibetan education, religion, and culture, plundering Tibetan nature, and ruining its environment. The survival of the Tibetans is a general question of humanity. If the Tibetan nation were not to survive, it would be a loss for all mankind. The Czech Republic and our modern history have much in common with Tibet, which is also described in this book. There is a strong bond between our peoples, first created and strengthened over 20 years by our President Václav Havel. Th e democratic part of our political representation and civil society identifi es with Havel's legacy and maintains his values, principles and policies. The aim of this book is to show why it makes sense to care about Tibet and why defending Tibet is a test of the quality of democracy in the free liberal world. It is a test of how much we allow the Chinese totalitarian regime to interfere in the functioning of our society; how much we will submit to its shocking and inhumane practices; how much we will allow ourselves to be bought and corrupted to turn a blind eye to what is happening in China. How we fare in this test will show how strong our democracy is and how civilised our society is.
